Welcoming 2009!!

Hi,
As we bid adieu to this year 2008,
lets make things, for our own selves clear and straight,
there would have been moments of learning, sharing, caring, joy, love or hatered
lets learn for ourselves from ourselves and grow
grow to greater heights, where even eagles may not dare to soar..
lets reach for our dreams,
or stretch our minds to reach our dreams..
and try to reach the path..
because no one will be answerable but our own selves..
lets try and soar further in 2009..
Wishing all a very Happy New Year..
Wish you all get what you wish for in life..
Have a Rocking year ahead....!!!
Welcome 2009!!

extending from the below blog..here, on indian languages ....

interestingly found an article in today's TOI on "Talking Native"

"
In a country where state boundaries have been drawn on a linguistic basis, it is no surprise that language regularly emerges as a bone of contention..."

"India, which has 22 scheduled languages (the number increased from 18, when Bodo, Dogri, Maithili and Santhali were added to the list in 2003), has also seen some shift in the language profile of populations. In the 1961 Census of India, 1,652 mother tongues were recorded. However, the 2001 census listed only 234 identifiable mother tongues — those which have 10,000 or more speakers each at an all-India level. "

'Hundreds of languages are in a similar state the world over. Reports from Unesco say over 50% of some 6,700 languages spoken today are in danger of disappearing. Experts estimate that 96% of the world’s languages are spoken by 4% of the population, and one language disappears on average every two weeks. "

some very interesting information about indian languages here

Though couldn't find much on how the states were so formed based on linguistic differences..

Pondering over...

Pondering over how different states were formed with distinct languages to differentiate them..
for eg. gujarat - housing gujarati's
maharastra - housing marathi's
Tamil nadu - housing tamil's

I didn't accept the things that I did not understand..
time showed its way...
May be later when I learn its meaning, and accept the things in its undeterred form,
I may have to wait till eternity
or the clock of time to give its say..

should the course of action be in acceptance of things which are not understandable at this point of time or should it hold better to understand the things and wait for time to show its play...

Sunday 26 October 2008

Lets pledge this Diwali to try and reduce all sorts of pollution ( external and internal ) that we keep doing in the name of God..

Lets not burst crackers which make horrendous sounds,
Lets not pollute the already polluted air,
Lets say together to the earth that we care...

Let this festival bring colour in our life and joy like rangoli ,
Lets bring brightness in life like the bright diyas..

The sound of crackers would get lost in the whims of air
and so would the smiles bursting them ..
instead lets spent on spreading joy by trying to bring the smile on others face ..
as the good wishes of those in need would outlast all race..

Lets pledge not to pollute externally and internally the Nature we have got..
Together lets say to the earth that we care...

Wishing all a very Happy Diwali..

Shopping mall encounters.

Shopping malls have always come as way to do some decent manageable time pass if nothing else was found to be done. So one such day was Saturday when I had relied on shopping mall for some reasonable time pass.
In the mall, marketing personnel try to convince that their brand is the best and going to suit you the most.
“ Madam, some sweet flavour will do?” “Would you like to check the new range we introduced?” “why don’t you just take a look?

So here are few of the funny encounters I had experienced in the past with the last one experienced on Saturday written first.

En 1 (Sat Sept 2008). :

While walking the lobby between the building, from the corner of my eye, I see A lens company has organized some event.. I move on without great interest. My corner eye glimpse also spots a marketing personnel speak something but being in my own thoughts I don’t stop to hear, thinking he’s talking to someone else.
But now few feet apart walking in my own pace.. I feel some one is following me.. and then I stop and turn around to see the same fellow whom I had spotted with the corner of my eye.

Panting he says.. “Madam, A lens company has organized a free camp. We are offering you one day disposable lens pair free,… blah blah” ( No wonder he spotted that I was wearing spects and a potential client ;) )

Since I had all the time in the world and they were giving one day pair lens trial for free ;) Voice in my head said “No harm in trying”
So there was I walking back with the person to where their setup was.
The guy asks me to fill the form. One lady checks the numbers on the spects that I was wearing. And then I was handed the free one day disposable lens to wear.

As soon as I got done I was bombarded with questions and schemes like “ ma’am how do u feel, this scheme is offering you so and so “ma’am you look better … blah blah ..why don’t you buy it’s a nice deal..

Tired of that bombardment I am ready with my tried and tested answer (which I have previously used for other cosmetic and skin care products ;)) “Actually, I have just got my new lenses done, for this I need to consult my ophthalmologist”
To this the lady says “No ma’am this is really safe.. blah blah…”

Her jabbering continues till I give her a big fake smile and excuse myself by thanking them “Thanks, I’ll surely get back to you guys once I need the new pair done” and off I am with the free trial.

En 2:
(Some day in 2001 or near around, when malls were pretty new concept here. Or rather I was quite new to it)
Ditto to the experience mentioned, I was loitering around the mall round the perfume section. It seemed that the concerned personnel of that section had no other great work and was accompanying me to all possible products they owned. Finally I decide to try few perfumes. And he’s there helping me by asking “Ma’am you like sweet, mild or strong smell” to that I said mild one should be fine.. So he douses the perfume on litmus sort of paper and hands over for me to smell it.. This goes on for 3-4 of such litmus test. After that he says “One minute ma’am, smell some coffee beans” I got confused as the person had said to smell or to eat the coffee beans.

And there he is with his extended hand with a box of coffee beans. Since I could not understand what to do I pick up 2-3 coffee beans and pop them off in my mouth and start chewing ( not knowing how eating would help me in selecting the perfume.. ;) ) (Wondering still how did he know I like coffee beans ;))
And off he’s there in a face trying to hide his laughter. Trying to manage a line or two “ Ma’am please smell the coffee beans so that the previous smells you smelled may not hamper your wanting to smell few new ones”
And there I was a little embarrassed and laughing on my on self.. Happens ( that’s what my mind consoled ;) ) !!

Enjoy!!

point to ponder..

Ever noticed that the packaged food may not be manufactured on the month it actually got packaged on..
On the food packets date its packed on is mentioned but ever wondered if the food being packed was manufactured the same day or not.. there are instances when food packets also have small pests inside along with the food... how far should one keep a check on manufacturing and packaging dates....
Apart from that there are pre - printed bags also used .. how far should the citizens arise and awake to all this ... should all this be explictly mentioned .. whats your say

Sunday 14 September 2008

wondering over..

Just wondering over.... how does the electricity board meter the lighting used to blare the eyes on the roads during festival celebrations which run weeks long here in India.. i have heard people being charged heavily inspite of less domestic electricity usage .. is it by any chance that the billing is transfered to the households... Anyone any idea ?

Picturising the unknown, unseen person..

We humans constantly create images of others in our minds window. As mentioned in Jaydip's blog , we form picture of the person we interact either verbally ( over phone) or written ( email, blog etc) without seeing that person. Soothing ( convincing/ supportive) voice at the times of need makes a good image ( picture ) of the person. And we wonder of the person's actual face over the imagined one.. how far does the actual image match the imagined one is at times funny to observe..

Questioning Rituals...

Today is Ganesh chathurthi. Wishing all a Happy Ganesh Chaturthi.

Outside on the roads I see upteen vehicles and people carrynig Ganesh ji's statue, with loads of people hooting "Ganpati Bapa Moriya". Loud music, loud displays consuming great electricity, long processions.. and in the end the immersion of the statue in water body. Wouldnt immersion of statues cause water pollution and in turn affect the life in the water ..how could we not look at that part.. how could we not look, that the next day volunteers and government servants go crazy cleaning up the mess on the roads and water bodies left the previous day ...

I have never understood the concept of immersing the statue of gods and goddesses in the water bodies..Had tried to inquire a few friends but couldnt get some satisfactory answer. It would be nice if someone could enlignten me on the same...

I also dont know if people following the rituals know the meaning of following them or is it that they are swayed by mass sentiment... Why can't we question our rituals? why can't we question our beliefs? Not that we detest what rituals say but atleast one can find answers and then follow them instead of following them blindly..

Should taking out processions and hooting the slokas ever please God ? it would just add to sentimantalising the society to different religious sects.. No offense against any particular religion..its a general blog trying to question our rituals..

It would be nice to have your views :)

what use of pan spittle..??

I have never understood the urge to spit pan and cough on the roads and walls of buildings and stairs etc. I actually dislike (hate) such acts. Seems govenrment should also provide spitting pan along roads, buildings and wherever possible.. but...
Anyhow, one funny incident to note here.. while walking down the road, I happened to spot a crow chewing from someones pan spittle :) funny to see. Didnt have a camera then to capture the image .. Atleast someones enjoying the organic waste.... enjoy..

passing th8...

So one more captured here ( passing th8 ofcourse ;) )

We need energy to sustain life. Energy comes to us in the form of food intake we take majorly ( leaving apart solar energy ). Food we intake is a living thing ( be it veggies or non-veg ). Then why in order to live and get energy do we have to consume living things. Can't the energy we get from other sources be enough to get our lives through ??

Wednesday 20 August 2008

pondering over .....

Why do we need synonyms and antonyms for almost all the words (leaving apart prepositions, proper nouns etc etc grammar words ) ? Isn't simpler the better?

Monday 11 August 2008

Pondering over..

Thoughts were racing in the mind after the meeting at the office, matching the pace with which I was walking on the railway platform. After reaching the place on the platform where the boggey on which I had to board halts, there was a couple standing, holding a very cute baby.. Due to what ever reason the baby was troubled , it kept crying in its shrill voice continuously.. the parents tried their bit to calm the baby but to no rescue..

With the storm of thoughts in my head, I sincerely wished that the couple dosen't land in the compartment I had to travel. But not to wonder, as mentioned in my previous blog, the crying baby and the family had to sit in the same compartment that i was travellig in :) To add fuel to the fire , there was another family with a crying baby almost the same age as this one, sitting in the next compartment but his Dada was sitting along with us, so the father kept bringing the child to his dada..And turn by turn both the kids kept crying.. :)
After some initial moments of irritation ( may be few hours :) ). I had to let go of thinking to restrospect the day at office and be a part of the flow.

If one has to enjoy a moment, one has to be a part of the flow. Being an observer simply would never let one enjoy the events. So then I decide to put aside all the thoughts and the book that I was wanting to read during the journey and enjoy the moment.
What made me wonder was, like child whose language was difficult to understand as they cry to make their parents or others understand its wants.. so also to us .. the language of emotions is so difficult to understand and more difficult is to give voice to the emotions exactly as they are felt within . How easy it is to misinterpret those and because we couldnt understand what was meant to be conveyed we misjudge, spank , under rate others..

Every business works around emotions.. how easy would the life be if we try to master that art.. !!

To cut the story short.. The next morning was calm as both the troubled kids were fine, fresh and happy to play with us... :) and journey ended peacefully.. All's well that ends well :) What say ??

photos and more....

Here are a few photos of my last trek to Korigad ( a fort adjoining Aamby Valley - near Lonavala) so sit back and enjoy

This one was the most breath taking moment - as the clouds passed through us we didnt even feel them cross by , it was so feathery light..yet as it crossed over us, it drizzled over us and when the cloud made its way the drizzle also stopped :)

Likes, Dislikes and What I could change..

On crossing the road , I just realised my frowining face...all because of the ramming traffic of humans and vehicles just about to hit you.. it made me think of the likes and dislikes this city has to offer me - the metro that we call MUMBAI
Likes :
- Metro city- more opportunities
- More happening ( lots of events keep happening)
- Well connected to major cities in India and abroad
- More gujarati crowd anywhere you go ( not that i discriminate other communities - but when you are away from your known place and culture you tend to miss it and somehow if you find ppl speaking similar dialect it makes you feel happy)
- open minded people - helpful also
- comparitvely "safe" for women

Dislikes :
- Very Dirty
- Heavely populated - no breathing space
- Heavy traffic
- very expensive

What I could help change:
- Help creating awareness of reducing waste and proper disposal of waste ( just happen to do that while i am using the public transport )

Likes and offerings the city has to offer outweighs in number/count over dislikes, but if we sit to calculate the percentage of inconvenience the dislikes cause it will outweigh the likes ...
What does your city say? and can we actually do something of trying to lessen the dislikes

Lili and the omen

She thought, when I started the painting I did not foresee the painting as it turned out to be finally. I just kept doing what came into my mind, then nothing was planned .It was just the minds flow that took shape into a painting and yet it was perceived and nominated as the best painting of the year which sought her a fortune at the Sotheby’s. She was happy for the appreciation of her work and the fortune she received but in her mind she wondered was it as worth as it was ranked by others?

While just strolling down the road, lost in her thoughts, Aparna walks down till the lake. Near the lake as she takes a view around, she finds one girl almost about her age, sitting solemnly. The girl was lean and averagely dressed, bending down to face the lake water. Aparna’s gaze is now caught by the fluttering pages of a book lying besides that girl.

Wondering what the girl was trying to do, Aparna goes close to her and peeks into the fluttering pages of that book. She gets hooked to that book as the fluttering pages give her the glimpses of what was contained in that book. She could partially see some of the beautiful paintings drawn in that book interspersed with some writings also.

To quench her amazement over that anonymous girl, she taps her gently and says “Hi, I am Aparna. I just saw partially some of the beautiful paintings in your book and I must say they are awesome. Who are you? Are you an artist? If you don’t mind can you show them ? I am an artist myself”

To this, that girl just gave a lame look. Though Aparna looked like a damsel to her, she found some sort of coziness in Aparna’s company and hence started sharing “I am Lili, I come from near by village. I come here daily to search life and the experience that nature has to teach us. What makes you come here madam; you seem to be from a very rich family? Even I wish I was …” the voice dampens and the pitch goes real low “ rich and successful ” “ I wish to work and bring in loads of good for my paren…..”

“No, I am not as rich as you are, I just came strolling here and saw u kneeling over the lake and thought to inquire the same from you. The paintings that I had a glimpse are extremely good, they are awesome, you could win ample awards and money from it. Could I have a better look of it?”

“Sure madam” says Lili and gets close to Aparna to show her the paintings. “This one madam, I had drawn a few years ago, and this one when there was lots of rain last year and the lake looked brim fully happy and this ….. ”

Aparna, now lost in her thoughts as she went through the paintings one by one. She wondered over the worth of Lili’s skills. Just then as Lili was showing her work, Aparna’s eyes hit the words on the flipping pages “Why is it that I wouldn’t trust what I don’t see…..”
To this she put hand over lili’s hand to halt over that page.

“Lili, could I read that what we just flipped by.. those words seem interesting to me .. “Why is it that I wouldn’t trust what I don’t see…..”

Lili, a little hesitant at first shows it to her and says “madam, these are my thoughts and I have no education like you so they may seem stupid and weird to you, but… ”

By now Aparna has already started reading what was written..

“Why is it that I wouldn’t trust what I don’t see?
Where is that reassuring hand to get us through?
What reassurance do people give to themselves in the state of fear or period of trial that would help them dole out relentlessly?
And was keeping faith till the last minute of trial being overly positive..

At least show me the omens that I hang on or move on,
I need omens to guide me through,
I need omens to guide me through,
Be it in form of putting trust on instincts
Or not letting me leave that path that was meant for me to travel,
Cos what purpose will it serve if I return with mission unaccomplished?
Show me the omens to guide me through.”

Totally stunned now, Aparna is thinking over the worthiness of the words mentioned.. they were powerful , they were words with great thought.. words which touched almost everyone . they were words of omens and the dreams..

Lost in the words of Lili’s poem, omens that we should seek, Lili’s worth as a great artist and Lili’s position of where she is and where she should have been … Aparna thinks in her mind “As like the painting she made with not great thought and effort.. it just happened and yet that sought the award, she thought there are many things in life which are incidental or accidental and there is a force that guides one through to make it the way it is… but what of omens and dreams ..and what of Lili’s omens and her dreams …. ”

coincidence or what ??!!

Sometimes, why certain events just happen with you and not with someone else.. all the more that event is something you hate the most .. for eg.. hair coming in the food plate that you are consuming and it keeps coming to your dish alone leaving apart other taking food from there only... :)

similarly other events that may happen to you but you hate those events to take place ... is there an answer to such events that happen to you consequently ...?? or can this termed as coincidence or what.... !!??

pondering over ...passing thought ...

Quite often we tend to pass on a murk smile ( or a mocking smile ) if someone falls or makes mistakes ..
( and all the more if the wavelength of the other person dosent match much with you ( or if one is not too comfortable with the other person))

what makes us laugh .. that other person has made mistake and you are not the only one ... or what ...

Little Ranting reptile ( stupidosaur) has tagged this time .. ( Acknowledgements to the little ranting reptile to 1st of all tag me and 2ndly to use a part of title from his blog without asking , but this reptile is a little generous and wuldnt mind the same ;) )
More often then not Tags come and act as fillers .. anyhow here is the tag completed..
Rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge the person who tagged you.
Nearest book?
Hmm.. badi mushkil se ye book khatam kiya .. Pg 123 didnt have anything substantial to quote so I took liberty to change it to pg 148 and the last of 3rd sentences from that page is what i ve taken here

Name of the book: Letters to Sam , A grandfathers lessons on Love, loss, and the gifts of life By Daniel Gotlieb

( Crossword had put it in best seller section - but some how I was hardly impressed . As written in the last page of this book Royalties from sale of this book are being donated to cure Autism now and other children's charities. - so in case if u wud like to do a little charity u can buy this copy - otherwise the book can be skipped.. )

Here are the lines :
"Groopman realised that as he accomodated the pain, it persisted. And the more he accomodated, the more it demanded.

I think many of us do this with our tigers. If the tiger is fear of rejection, we might not get into an intimate relationship. If the tiger is depression, we might stay home more and socialize less. if its insecurity, we might devote our lives to appearing more productive than everyone else, just to hide that tiger."

(Could coorelate with the above quote and hence posted it but I would like to add one more from my diary . )
I ll post a quote I like a lot .

- To laugh often and much
- To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children
- To earn appreciation of honest critics and endure betrayal of false friends
- To find the best in others
- To leave this world a bit better by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition
- To know even one life has breathed easier because you ve lived.
This is to ve succeded

Fundamental Duties of Indian Citizen

I found this excerpt on Fundamental Duties of Indian Citizen in one of the secondary school texts on Environment studies.. it did remind me of civics as a subject in my school days and how i used to hate it .. but isnt this feeling what almost all would reciprocate with ..
How important it is to know what the Indian constitution says and do what it takes to prove a better citizen but hardly anyone would be recalling it...
here it goes.

Article 51A of Indian constitution mentions the Fundamental Duties of Indian Citizen

Fundamental duties:
It shall be the duty of every citizen of India –
1) to abide by the constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the National flag and the National anthem
2) to cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspire our national struggle for freedom
3) to uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India
4) to defend the country and render national service when called upon to do so
5) to promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all people of India transcending religious linguistic and regional or sectional diversities; to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women
6) to value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture
7) to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, rivers, lakes, wild life and to have compassion of living creatures
8) to develop the scientific temper, humanization and the spirit of inquiry and reform
9) to safeguard public property and to abjure violence
10) to strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavour and achievement

More Goofing's ......

Now this is becoming a space to vent out goofings.. yet another one and this one was really funny..
Scene 1:
C is to take a lecture to the freshly recruited batch, next morning at 10.30 on a designated topic (which got designated to her just around 6pm).
The lecture to the batch is to start at 10.30am at ground floor conference room.
Few minutes before the presentation time, C checks for the setup. C was not aware where the wireless keyboard and mouse were kept apart from the console to control projector and stuff.. so C goes to the reception counter and gently asks the receptionist ( hence forth called R1) of the same ..
(both the receptionist R1 and R2 are engrossed in some talks before I barge into their conversation )

here goes the conversation…

C: hi, I’ve a presentation in this conference room . I ve to present “slides” so I would like to get the set up of projector, wireless keyboard and mouse done .
R1: tell security nah.. (half listening.. not interested in what C is talking as C had disturbed her from some hot topic both R1 and R2 were discussing… )
C: perplexed.. ‘security’ ??
R1: yeah .. tell security he will do it
C still stands there not understanding why for IT set up she has to talk to security ( or was it that security was that smart )..
R1 : arre tell this lady in grey sari she will also do it ..
C is still standing ..and wondering and more confused.. what and how would security people know about how to set up projector and keyboard and stuff..
R1: go that lady standing there, she will help you. ( by this time R1 is tired of instructing C !!)

Scene 2:
C: ( so confused still) approaches wondering what and how she should explain that security wali lady to get the set up of projector etc done ready for her presentations so that she understands my wants and gets done with my requirement …

Though C in her mind knows the result and doesn’t want to converse at all with that lady but R1 from remote is watching ;) so C makes effort and goes to security)

C: I want to present a lecture , Pls get the projector and keyboard in place..
Security lady : what ?? huh.. i dont get u!!
C is like where in the world have I landed ( C feels like banging her head)

C is looking around for some instant relief and luckily C spots HR guy .. C immediately leaves that lady behind ( that lady is also perplexed what language I talked her into!!) and C follows the HR guy who’s walking towards R1.
( so this conversation again takes place near the R1)

C: hey V, I have a presentation here in ground floor conf. could u pls get the required set of WIRELESS KEYBOARD, MOUSE and PROJECTOR done for me ( C is now tired of explaining her wants)..
V: hmm .. ok ..
Meantime R1 is also hearing C and V’s conversation and barges our conversation to share her knowledge….
R1: o ok u want to present a lecture I will call chacha..I thought u wanted to get “switches” on..
(Chacha was the IT guy handling/managing all those equipments..)

So while I was talking of presenting slides ( inturn meaning a presentation) R1 in her own mind understood my saying as switches instead of “ slides and hence was continuously pointing to the security .. because security ofcourse knew where the “switches” were to lit the conference room.

Phew!!!

There was no end to laughing at the whole encounter and events that took place..

namequest..UQ !!

On the quest to find a colleague on the sametime( messenger of lotus notes),I question the masterfind( repository of all the employees with their designations and email id..) . I put the name of A on masterfind.. and out comes the result page by page. Since there were ample of them with the same name, name with A1, A2.. etc. I knew the surname of A and with that name and surname there was only one name..So I go further, on basis of instinct.. add the one assuming that this was the one I had to contact to..
C: hi
A: hi there
C: hey what happened to the common photos of the outing.. if u ve uploaded them can u send the link across....
A: m sorry, but m sure this is some other A. U are taking to some other A. and I ve no clue and am least aware of the photos u are talking about.. and ends it there with a smiley

Vasai trek

Now this is almost a month after the fling with the vasai fort trek that I am jotting the thoughts to words, after several other attempts to do so. With myriad of thoughts that ran haywire in my brain cells then, these are the few ones I could capture..

A short History:
“This fort (in the area of 110 acres) was built by Bahadurshah, Sultan of Gujarat [A.D 1526 to 1537]. Two years after its construction, it passed in the hands of the Portuguese, with whom it remained for nearly 2 centuries, during which period the place was developed into a fine prosperous city with fine buildings like cathedral, convent, church, asylum etc. in A.D 1739 Chimaji Appa the brother of Peshwa Baji Rao I after storming the Sam Sabastio’s Bassien captured the city. In A.D 1802 under the treaty Bassien the Marathas handed the city to the British who 16 years after incorporated it in the Bombay province” - (Department of Archeology)

My thoughts:
1) The fort as seen in few of the photos posted here is in a badly shattered state. So whatever the state of the fort was some century back today it lies in a forlorn and sad state. The grandeur of the fort is now lost in the wilderness of the wild trees and vegetation grown all over the fort. Had it been preserved and looked after over the centuries as when it was built and ruled from, it would not have seen this fate.
So the point to take is that if no proper care is given to a living or even to that matter a non living thing, it would face a shattered and forlorn fate.

2) It took years and a great effort to build a fort but to destroy it didn’t take much time.

3) If the people who built it knew the fate of the fort its lying in right now, would they ve built it with the same vigour?

4) Bahadur shah, the king who built the fort and Chimaji Appa who won the fort back from the Portuguese were important figures of their times but today after centuries no one knows of them apart from the history books and the historians. No one will remember us until we did something substantial to be written down in the sands of time and history or would any one remember after centuries? And then how far would it be important to try to be number one? How far would it be important to be the richest? How important would it be to be the strongest? What is the most important thing in this life then? Was that victory by Chimaji ever worth that struggle??
What I guess I could think of it as, it’s important to lead a meaningful life such that people around take and draw inspiration. Centuries down the line we may be remembered may not be remembered depending on the work we did and on popularity charts as voted by public then but what was important was to live life full of reason, vision and mission such that one leads a blissful life. (Though writing this is easier then leading such a life)

5) We were escorted throughout the trek by a volunteer group of people called Vasai Kille Mohim. They have been active in preservation of this fort since last 5 yrs. All the 5 members of the group are in different professions but almost every Sunday they take different groups like ours to the fort to share the history of this fort and do whatever they can to preserve this fort. In the fort there is a secret tunnel of some 513 meters in length. In the entrance its 6 foot in height but after few meter it just is 2.5-3 foot in height because the tunnel gets filled with mud during monsoons. It was fun and a great experience to crawl through the tunnel all because this troop works incessantly to take the mud off that tunnel, shovel by shovel to make it manageable to cross by crawling.

Every drop counts. Every effort counts. The group didn’t wait for the government to do something but rather took an initiative to try and improve the condition of the fort by whatever means they could, study the history of the fort, clean the tunnel, follow up with archeology and government officials etc.
If every citizen could get sensitized to that level and take up a cause they are concerned of, I guess there would be hardly any problems left to sort in this world.
More pictures on this here.

colour logic..

How is white colour formed in actual sense of objects/materials/things bearing the colour 'white' ?
i guess its inherent to nature of material. for eg white paint may be formed from lime or chalk
white cloth formed from white yarn and yarn formed from cotton, which is inherently white etc..
Can white colour be made...?
Anyone can add views to this ...

[according to colour theory white colour is the mixture or blending of all colours , but if we blend colours it turns out to be black . and black is understood to be as absence of all colours...]

someone's lost his senses..or did he have at all ;)

Now this is some real funny news I’ve ever heard… Mr Bush has problem with the eating habits of Indians..

“Indian food habits were contributing to spiralling prices of commodities, which in turn, were worsening the global food crisis. PTI

News says “Mr Bush had praised the fast growth of developing countries but pointed out that India’s growing middle class was pushing up consumption leading to higher food prices. He said that prosperity in countries like India is good but that it led to demands for “better nutrition.” “That’s bigger than America... and when you start getting wealth, you start demanding better nutrition and better food. And so demand is high, and that causes the price to go up,” Mr Bush said. He had also pegged the Indian middle class at 350 million people who were pushing up food prices. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had also linked the growing wealth of Indians and Chinese in pushing up food prices. ”
Mr Bush’s remarks had led to outrage among India’s political classes with defence minister A K Anthony calling it a `cruel joke’.
“Mr Anthony had further pointed out that the policies of the US which included diversion of agriculture land for bio-fuel purposes, was contributing to the global food shortage.”
________
Its always true.. things beneath the nose are hardly seen.. such is in the case of Mr Bush.
How could he not see the food waste they create in terms of bottled/canned/processed food that reaches expiry and is never consumed but wasted and the obese Americans consumption ( not forget the obese statistics of Americans..)

-- 63% of Americans are overweight with a Body Mass Index (BMI) in excess of 25.0.-- 31% are obese with a BMI in excess of 30.0.-- Childhood obesity in the United States has more than tripled in the past two decades.
Above figures are taken from the following link

Where as Wiki says obese Indians to be just 5% of country’s population and majority of people still living under poverty line, who can barely manage to get two times meals..

Mr Bush is standing up and sticking to his image like a blond… (we ve lost the track of the count also)
Why don’t you control your own resources before pointing fingers… !!!

funny tales...

C gets up in the morning.. relaxed …stretches, yawns … has tea…reads news paper…. Everything is going cool…. Gets ready for the day … everything is going well on time (not to forget she’s taken web based training just yesterday – ‘Time as Resource’ to close the competency gaps and trying to meet what she’s just learned).

While thinking what should be worn as foot wear, she decides for shoes, she fumbles for socks… and after a great struggle out comes 2 of them…she wears one … while wearing the other one.. she realizes both are different.. C has a smile around her lips (inside the voice is cracking with laughter) .. :D

C thinks, should I make another effort to find the right pair…or make do with this found one’s ( which were found after great struggle ) ;)

And finally she decides, as far as both are white and only a little different in pattern it will do … and so C’s around with different pair of socks to the office….hoping no one is going to spot it :D
And luckily C escapes of people’s notice :D or if someone noticed, no one commented .!!

Yday, while going through the mails lying in the inbox, C finds there’s mail regarding a camp to Vasai fort on Sunday, goes through the mail hurriedly. C feels happy and thinks she will convince a few more colleagues and register for the same. Day passes. C gets busy with work.
In the late afternoon, after being reminded by another colleague (whom C had convinced to join) of the mail and the first cum first serve nominations for the camp, C realizes that the registration needs to be done urgently. All the convinced colleagues start to enroll for the camp.
The Nominations were to be sent mentioning the subject in the following format:
Vasai : Employee No : Work Location
While filling the required details in the mail, C gets confused with the subject format..but doesn't take pains to go through the mail again.
She gets confused over why was Vasai appearing in the subject line. As Vasai was a work location as well, so in that case there would be mention to the work location twice. ( C in her thoughts thinking that Vasai is also a work location)
C pings her colleague and asks her query.
C: hey D, why is this work location mention appearing twice.
D: C, Duffer , Vasai is the place where the camp is …
C: laughs (internally of course) uncontrollably
D: laughs…
(By the time C’s filling the details she’s totally forgotten which place the camp was. She just remembers that there’s a camp on Sunday, and that if nominations get accepted, it would be fun with the friends.)

C forgets about it.

After about two months. N’s sametime ( a lotus notes messenger) window pops up on C’s PC.
C wonders of person taking pains to find C on the same time messenger and ask her , whether he had replied to her mail or not.
N: hi

China’s claim for Arunachal Pradesh, 1962 Indo-China war and Tibet

On my way to search why was china claiming Arunachal Pradesh , I also happened to delve into Sino – Indian war of 1962.
Wiki says it as a “The initial cause of the conflict was a disputed region of the Himalayan border in Arunachal Pradesh, known in China as South Tibet. Fighting began on 20 October 1962 between the People's Liberation Army and the Military of India.”

Result: Chinese military victory. Subsequent Chinese withdrawal to pre-war positions

“The aftermath of the war saw sweeping changes in the Indian military to prepare it for similar conflicts in the future, and placed pressure on Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who was seen as responsible for failing to anticipate the Chinese invasion.”

Very interesting note is presented on why china went to war with India . 1) There was "a perceived need to punish and end perceived Indian efforts to undermine Chinese control of Tibet, Indian efforts which were perceived as having the objective of restoring the pre-1949 status quo ante of Tibet" The other was "a perceived need to punish and end perceived Indian aggression against Chinese territory along the border.

2) Another factor which affected China's decision for war with India was a perceived need to stop a Soviet-US-India encirclement and isolation of China. India's relations with the Soviet Union and United States were both strong at this time, but the Soviets were preoccupied by the Cuban Missile Crisis and would not interfere with the Sino-Indian War. P.B. Sinha suggests that China timed the war exactly in parallel with American actions so as to avoid any chance of American or Soviet involvement. American buildup of forces around Cuba occurred on the same day as the first major clash at Dhola while China's buildup between the 10th and 20th of October coincided exactly with the United States establishment of a blockade against Cuba which began on the 20th of October.
Another link on why Arunachal Pradesh’s claim by china. It’s a very interesting read.

“The major cause of China-India territorial dispute, which deprived peace from Arunachal Pradesh, is from immediately after Chinese Revolution in 1911. At that time, Qing Dynasty, the last Chinese Dynasty, fell and the Emperor of Qing Dynasty resigned. As a result, China, Tibet and Mongolia became equal and separate countries. In these three countries, Tibet and Mongol tried to be approved internationally as independent states, and undertook to international society. However, on the other hand, Han Chinese Republicans started small war to subjugate reins of government of Tibet and Mongol. Therefore, they could not be independent states at that time.
In 1912-13, the British Raj made agreements with tribal leaders that defined the area that was known as NEFA. British rule could have very small impact on the isolated, self-sufficient in terms of economy and militarily uncontrollable tribal peoples. In order to arrange this conflict, in 1913 and 1914, the British administrator, Sir Henry McMahon, drew up the 550-mile McMahon Line as the border between India and China in Shimla, during a conference which also discussed the Tibetan and Chinese borders (“McMahon Line.”) This conference is called Shimla Conference. Regardless of this reconciliation, the McMahon Line was rejected by the Chinese government in 1947 (“Arunachal Pradesh.”)
Following this dispute, the Chinese troops crossed the McMahon Line on the August 26th, 1959 (“Arunachal Pradesh.”) They abandoned this in 1961, but in October 1962 crossed the line once again with force (“McMahon Line.”) As a result, Sino-Indian War broke out. The Chinese extended their frontier as they intruded deeper and deeper. However, this war did not go on for a long time. In 1963, the Chinese agreed to withdraw back to the McMahon Line, and also returned Indian prisoners of this war at that time.

An inconvenient truth ..

Someone has rightly said that development is inherent part and environment the inseparable part of mankind, so will the concern of environment be always a stumbling block in the road to development?? Sustainable Development is the key word..

World commission on Environment and Development 1987 defined Sustainable Development as “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”

In continuation to the previous blog – I will come up with series of writings co-related..

Hike in oil price has been an issue of concern. Govt. tries its level best to dither the price hike to be passed on as burden to the common man. Who bears the brunt is the government and the PSU oil companies. Govt. to make its voters happy, issues oil bonds to the loss bearing oil companies..

We always fight the government, that its not considering the plight of common man, but I wonder how many people think before using a vehicle for a distance they could actually walk down.
How many times have we ever thought before shutting our engine while waiting at a traffic signal,
How many times have we ever thought to minimize or reduce our consumption.
All this requires a conscious efforts, which no government can teach or preach .. reducing a price is temporary .. but reducing our consumption can be our choice ..
Everyone wants pleasure and comfort , but it should not be at cost of humanity and future generations..
Why not think in terms, is it absolutely necessary to take that vehicle ride or flight or train or can I make do with walking, cycling etc and reduce our carbon footprint..

Pleasure is one thing and sustainable living is another..
Change begins with us …. Lets be the change, the nation and world wants us to be ….
_______________________________________________________
On other note : what makes me wonder here is why in that case the PSU stocks are always on demand even when investor knows that PSU companies are shelling losses on the common man’s behalf….

nano-nono

With Nano “The People’s car’ creating waves a few days back..am sure Mr Ratan Tata has thought of his profits only and has tried to over look the dire consequences its Nano will cause to the nation at large.. (other auto manufacturers not to be spared )
Nano’s launch some two months back bought it national and international attention.. but what brought me to write about this after a gap of the launch (not that it was not thought of when I read the news of launch of nano) is when I read in the today’s news which says India pays $100 per barrel for the first time “Crude oil price crosses $100 mark
NEW DELHI: The price of imported crude oil has crossed a record $100 a barrel mark. — PTI
Indian basket touches $100”

They (Nano website) say that the people’s car will bring comfort and safety within the reach of thousands of middle class families ..but what about the fuel prices which are rising like hell.

“The high fuel efficiency also ensures that the car has low carbon dioxide emissions, thereby providing the twin benefits of an affordable transportation solution with a low carbon footprint.” But what about the footprint it would bring in the terms of dumping vehicles. Where is the space to ride and park the vehicles in the overly populated country with humans and vehicles population alike…

While the whole world is trying to move to alternative fuel and hybrid and eco-friendly models of car, Tata should be making efforts to engineer a model that not only serves its people comfort and safety but also makes news internationally by building model that’s eco-friendly not just for names sake like the present lame statements but other wise also ..
It time they should think beyond profits.

The Lost World ...

“Platform no. 1 par aane wali local che baj kar petalis minute ki dheeme local hai, ye local sabhi sthanako pe rukegi……” “ it has been such a long and tiring day, boss is urrrggghhh, he had to get all the work done today only…he knew…” “ye local borivali se andheri, andheri se bandra ...... ” were the words interspersed with the voice in her head. She was almost running to reach the platform and catch the train to her destination. Finally catching the train, she squeezes into the mob to fit into the compartment..

Deepa, lost in the wilderness of her thoughts shook up by the ring of her cell, Vishal calling…..

“Where are you, I am trying to call you since last 15 minutes? says the voice
Deepa : “Just caught the train, didn’t hear your previous rings,..boss was not …..”
Vishal: “do you have any idea, my friends are coming over at our place, and reaching in an hour, every time we have someone visiting over at our place, you have your job and your job responsibilities…..”
“but …”
Beep beep goes the line…
Getting a little tense, she checks her watch, it was already quarter to 7, and the guests were arriving at 8.
“O God, in an hour we have the guests coming and I still need to go and buy veggies, prepare the table, cook, get things in order in the house and get ready.. “uffff”…..” “Vishal is not going to like any un-presentable stuff”

Vishal, an MBA into HR, working for a big four had reached home just 15 min back and found the house deserted and things out of place. Fuming and shouting something on his own, he sits on the sofa, removes his shoes and stretches his legs over the table placed right ahead of him.. switched on the TV and starts flipping the channels.. while running out of patience, he dials Deepa’s number….

He believed that the lady had to manage the house and the household activities of cooking, rearing children, taking care of the family, while all the external world activities should be secondary to her. She could go and work but she had to manage both…That was the concept of modern women to him.

While in the train, Deepa, lost in her thoughts was a little stressed out but was trying her best to manage and carry on the show with a tight rope to walk between her aspirations to get promoted as manager and her so called ‘duty’. Forgetting and forgiving was what she was trying to live by. Vishal in his work had forgotten her birthday yesterday. She had provided clues but to no avail.. With a single tear dropping to her cheek, she rubs it off before someone spots ..

7.30 says the watch, TV is on, house is in the same order,… door bell rings …the stretched legs , while still sitting, rumbles something in an incremental sound…..

Kala ghoda festival 2008

Here are few glimpses of kala ghoda festival 2008 which I was lucky enough to attend...

the fire man

Here's a brief on Kala ghoda festival :

"Every year, the Association hosts the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival for nine days in February.
Gallery and pavement shows, exhibitions, literary events, film screenings, music concerts, dance performances, theatre shows, workshops, heritage walks, a food fiesta, and a buzzing street festival bring in audiences and participants from all over the city. The Festival has grown in size and popularity, winning a reputation for its diversity and vibrancy, for the platform it gives to talent, and, heck, for being a fun place to be. "

If you've cherished these there are more photographs on this event here..

Enjoy... :)

Headless Chickens..!!

News headlines says..
"Bird flu has spread to 13 of West Bengal's 19 districts, with samples of dead chickens testing positive in two new districts …
Experts fear the H5N1 virus strain found could mutate into a form easily transmitted from person to person, leading to a pandemic, but there have been no reported human infections in India yet."
.. blah blah…

Now this news is no news at all, its been circulating around since a couple of years now- Hongkong, Indonesia, Bangladesh etc .. Countless innocent chickens have been killed by now, suspecting them to be carriers of H5N1 virus because had they been consumed by humans, they had the potential to spread the virus in humans.. Hence it is found better to kill the source..

So they were born to be killed either way!!..

On other note an item of controversial news which appeared two weeks back was: “The Supreme Court on Friday refused permission to hold ‘Jallikattu’ or bull fight, a centuries old event that attracts thousands of people during Pongal harvest festival in Tamil Nadu, saying it was “barbaric” and amounted to cruelty against animals.”

If bulls fight is termed as “barbaric” and “amounted to cruelty against the animals” , the culling of birds/animals etc isn’t ??? Quite controversial..!!

If one can take a hint, consuming non-veg. never seems hygienic apart from causing pain to the creature.. How could one consume an animal or fish or a bird without thinking what they are consuming as food was alive some time back, walking, swimming, flying , living with its family…
Anyhow would like to present a link mentioning some of the benefits of being a veggie.

Why not Live and Let Live..!!

bullish marathon..!!

With the Sensex crossing 21K mark!! today.. the Bull seems to keep running.. and hoping that it will for some more time to come…Markets seem to be bullish at times and bearish at times depending on theinternational markets performance, crude oil prices, national/internationalpolitical/apolitical affairs, blah blah …

Business channels and economic dailies come with their daily analysis on which stock to invest and which not ..So in the midst of this run withmajor stocks at all time highs - is it the right time to invest?? What my logic says is that (which is similar to that of age old one or rathersimilar to the theory of diminishing returns expelled by some economistages back ) all times are right times of course depending on which stock one is investing , any investment into the diminishing goods would always bear returns..!!
Ps see : I am barely an amateur in this space (so would not dare to give any explicit views!!) :)

With the dollar’s worth depreciating against that of Re …- the most hit are the export houses, and biggest amongst them are the major IT companies (bagging all major MNC projects) what makes me wonder then is that why still are these major IT companies bringing in new employees and why then are they in the race of number crunching?? If they still have enough of profits from the previous bargains, why not prefer to share amongst the existing employees rather then bringing new ones and distributing the profits..!! ;)

Before I open my baggage of little knowledge in this arena :) – I guess this is enough to quote here.. and would leave the rest to the business channels and economic dailies to bring in their introspection, analysis, judgments etc etc..

Enjoy the bullish run/marathon (if u are part of that race!! :) - rest of us can be the parcel of spectators :) )
