What you expect from other, do same with behaviour other.Other thing is high moral ethics and your usefullness to society earns good respect. Some times money earned in proper and spending in proper way also earns good respect. Proper dressing up, Charming looks, good speech and politeness also earns good respect. so many thing written on this matter every small thing seems looks good but you can elobrate it properly you understand it properly
@hitsesh,bhavesh, bhavesh c- thanks for ur views.. my view (along with the mentioned ones )- there few qualities in some which are inborn to them and they dont ve to put any effort to reflect the same..which in others purview gains respect (because that is the thing that they are lacking and they would long to become like that) for eg. your boss apart from great technical expertise is so humble that he/she is there to support and help u grow , he/she will gain respect in your eyes and eventually u also wud like to grow up to that image..it may be such because of their inherent nature.
@chinmai.Pardon me but i marginally disagree with the example you quoted. For a person it won't be always possible to be the same helpful being at all times ( coz of any circumstance/other work) . In that case if he/she does not show the same behavior towards the other companion then that person thinks the other way. May feel that the boss in this case is being partial.
Well I have just spent 2 yrs in a corporate life..but i could clearly see this happening around me. A person so very helpful and nice is perceived as a partial and "khadoos" by some other colleagues.
Hey,objective type of questions can be answered very easily -just kiddin. :)
As per my view, we judge the people by their actions. Now as per our judgement some actions are really worth for great respect whereas others are really at the opposite end. But, the judgement of actions is differ from person to person. So, giving respect to someone is also differs from person to person. There is no unique definition.
Seeing others from his frame of reference, seeing the world by putting his spectacles on your eyes, continuously affirming others best quality which he himself believes in, verbalizing others unsaid and never expressed feelings ... are few of the many things whose outcome may be respect ....

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Sounds familiar? ;)

By his speech and gestures!
Respect is an outcome/byproduct of things you do.
